Just wanted to make sure that I never have any control over my shitty fate and absurd actions before this year ends.

Interesting read. However, there seemed to be a number of flaws in his logic. Nevertheless, it was worth the time.

Some points I found a bit repetitive despite it being such a short book. But interesting read overall. Definitely fuelled my curiosity on the subject.

Free will is only an illusion.

It's a scary concept to think about, but with a little reflection, it's not. This book isn't trying to say that the world doesn't exist and its just a figment of your mind. But it just makes you think about the concepts of 'free will' and how many things get attributed to this that aren't even free will. If it was never free will to start with, then how can we even miss not having it?

Nothing like a little light reading before I go to sleep.

My mind couldn't understand the point the author was getting to. There seems to be a lot of back and forth where their thought process plays into free will then jumps out of it with an outlandish example to prove their point. I don't know what to say or feel about it. All of this is philosophy that can't be truly proved one way or the other. I would read more of his books to see if they have this same writing through line of theories.

Listened to audiobook version. Definitely recommend it the audiobook. The author has a great reading voice. Makes one think about who is the "doer" and the role of responsibility in a world where actions don't have a clear cause. Think you are free to choose whether you read this book or not? Sam Harris think you don't have control over the choice, it's the product of an elaborate cascade of causal events that make this happen. We think we are choosing, but that feeling is really a post-hoc analysis that gives us the subjective feeling of choice. In truth, it's a mystery as to whom/what is doing the choosing.

That said, there is a still something important to the value of choices we make (and doing our best to make "good" choices), and the role of taking responsibility for our choices and their outcomes (if we didn't...we'd get a world run amok). The book didn't go into these topics in enough depth for my liking.

nonsensical idiotic garbage, it's an embarrassing addition to my library and the physical book will be donated to charity at first opportunity
