Am I the kind of person that would write a review on my own novel?

Apparently.

But only because I know my Goodreads friends are more likely to read my reviews than my "updates," so consider this less of a review and more of an announcement:

I am preparing to publish my first novel, [b:Blood Awakens|45161887|Blood Awakens (The Awakened, #1)|Jessaca Willis|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/book/50x75-a91bf249278a81aabab721ef782c4a74.png|69857572] in June, and as a teaser to the series, I went ahead and published this short story!

The Awakening, is told from the perspective of Mara, one of the four main characters in the series, as she and other Awakened students are attacked by anti-Awakened radicals on campus.

If you're into fantasy, characters with supernatural powers, a world torn apart by difference and fear, and a multi-perspective narrative, check out the series on Amazon!

Picked this up for free a while ago and finally got around to reading it. Not sure what I expected of it, as I honestly didn't even remember having it, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I liked the general idea of the world, as well as the characters and the writing style. I honestly considered having a look at the rest of the series, but I'm kind of done with the whole post-apo thing these days - feeling like I'm kind of done with all the genres, these days, to be honest - but yeah, I didn't buy it. At least not right now. Have enough books to read already, but who knows, maybe I'll pick the series up in the future.
