The Rake is the first book in the Daughters of Dishonor series. This was a new to me author and this book seems to be in the same universe as the Oxford Set series. A few of these characters make appearances but I didn’t have any problem starting with this series.

I enjoyed this fast paced and adventurous romance. You’re almost immediately thrown into the story in that I had to stop and make sure I was still in chapter one because of how quickly the story escalated. I liked how the story was mysterious and dangerous but never felt like it overshadowed the romance.

The MC are opposites in their reputations but are immediately drawn to one another. And almost immediately they also fight their attraction for one another. Neither looking to ever marry but the feelings the tall spinster FMC has sparked in the libertine MMC are unlike any he’s felt for any other woman. Which he of course finds confusing and pulls away from the FMC for every step forward. As the daughter of a country vicar, the FMC isn’t used to the feelings of desire she feels for the MMC and fights to keep from being just another conquest.

I also liked that while this is filled with tension it wasn’t high angst. I did feel that one part towards the end was anticlimactic. Overall, it was a fun journey for this unlikely pairing and am excited to see what’s in store for Margot’s sister and to also check out the Oxford Set series.

There are four encounters with voyeurism that leads to an encounter.

The author provided  an advance ebook. All opinions are my own.
