This was beautifully crafted. This retelling of a story I learned in childhood, but have not read since was surprisingly refreshing and captivating. I seldom read the stories of women, and certainly none so honest. This was a pleasure.

Tired of the sexism and misogyny. Sure, part of the culture, still don't need to hear it and be reminded of what we experience on a small scale today.

Also veered way off the biblical story, she took extreme liberties and I don't like reading about real people in made up scenarios.

Biggest issue I had with it was how the (female) author took a story about rape and made it not only consensual but Dinah enjoyed it. I find that disturbing and disgusting, when the real life story is completely different. Disappointed and lost all interest after that - so glad I jumped ahead and read that part, I knew that would be the ultimate deal breaker.

Actually so relieved it's not on my list of books to finish up, I can finally read smth I actually enjoy :D

I can't remember being so fascinated and immersed in a book in a long time. I'll admit I've never read the Bible, but this story was one of the most interesting I've ever read. Dinah's story was well worth telling, and this book is well worth reading.

I loved this book. I don't know how accurate it is, as my Biblical knowledge is limited, but I really enjoyed Diamant's story-telling. The tale of Dinah and her experiences in the tent were eye-opening to me. This book expanded my understanding of the story of Jacob and gave me an inspiring glimpse of women in that time. I really enjoyed the Egyptian culture explored in this and appreciated the challenge of remembering those gods! This novel will definitely stick with me.
