The Neighbor Favor begins with a Prologue that introduces Lily and Nick, from both perspectives. Nicks book, The Elves of Ceradon, was a game changer for Lily. She’s stoked to find a website (finally!) and sends an email through the Contact form. Nick is equally stunned to receive an email that isn’t spam through the site.
And so begins Part 1, where we view the beginning of their relationship through their emails. I loved that! It was a clever way to pace a long stretch of time. Their relationship existed solely in that space; why not see it that way? They knew each other only in the statements committed to writing, so it made sense to me that it was presented that way. I was hooked.
Family expectations was a significant theme in a relatable way. Lily doesn’t want to involve her family in her love life and craves privacy and autonomy. Anyone who’s ever had overbearing family members will get it. Lily eventually shows her spine by taking a stand that is super satisfying.
Lily’s relationship with her sisters was enviable as an only child. They each had distinct personalities and I loved them. Violet was my favourite though; I hope another book is in the works for her. I want to read about her getting her own HEA after what Big Time Eddy did to her 🤞
I had fun reading The Neighbor Favor and recommend picking it up.
