I love the idea of this more than the actuality of it. There’s a lot of really good stuff here, and there’s a lot of stuff that’s ALMOST good. The characters are lovable but one dimensional, we don’t get enough time with their back stories nor do we find any real resolution on some of the very real problems we gloss over. I think it would’ve been more successful if the author just embraced a lighthearted, happy-ending story instead of trying to build in the complex family trauma and side plots. BUT I’m so happy to have a romance novel featuring people of color in a sea of whiteness and I did have a good time

Romance to do with books will always have my heart.  Nick the author and Lily who works at a publishers meet in the most unconventional way as neighbours.  But unbeknownst to them this isn’t their first experience with each other.

Throughout this we see them fight their feelings and also the truth emerge on how they truly know each other as although Nick clocks it early on Lily is still in the dark.

Dealing with trust issues, anxiety’s, their experiences as black individuals in the publishing world this book is powerful , well written and truly grabbed my heart.

I’m a sucker for a book within a book but the diversity just added so much more for me too. With them even mentioning rf kuang and her books - more diverse author recognition it meant a lot
