Prescient, disorienting, frustrating, extraordinary. Changed the way I think about the current political situation.

Listen to the foreword by Margaret Atwood after finishing the book if you hate spoilers.

Think I need a re-read to absolutely nail the plot, but it is absolutely an under-read classic, and the fingerprints on 1984 et al are large. I enjoyed reading the intro and end notes from the other colossus of dystopia.

Book #5 completed for Book Riot Challenge 2018: "A book of genre fiction in translation"
It was really interesting reading one of the first books written of the dystopian science fiction genre after I had read so many others. A few things were pretty cute, like in this time after the 200 year war, people would still write letters with ink and paper, but overall a great imaginative setting and philosophy. The narrator kind of drove me crazy with his back and forth, but it makes him very human also. Definitely did not end like I expected.

I should've liked this more than I did, considering it's influence on Orwell. Ultimately, I feel like I read it before: a combination of 1984 and Brave New World. This is terribly unfair as this book came first. But 1984 did it better.

Still, totally worth reading as a fan of dystopian fiction.

I would never recommend this because the format was odd and as a result, the story itself was hard to follow. However, given how old this book is (almost a century) and how well this science fiction has stood that test of time, I respect it.
