mmmm love reading classic banned books that paint dystopian worlds that are oddly similar to what is going on in present times

my brain struggled with this one

ending was bleak but realistic for the world it was set in

This translation is a difficult read.  The author paints the narrative with shadows and incomplete sentences.  I suspect it's historical role in 1984 drive much of it's readership.

Entiendo porque la gente dice que es bueno y el principio me llamo mucho la atención, pero se me ha hecho aburrido. De todas maneras, creo que si lo hubiera leído en otro momento me habría gustado más.

I had a Goodreads review all written, but somehow it was wiped when I tried to copy it over to this platform, so now I have no record of my review. How dystopian! All I'll say is that I found Natasha Randall's translation incredibly beautiful and evocative, so much so that I couldn't rate it anything other than 5 stars. This really is the better version of 1984.

(bela shayevich translation)

eventually it becomes quite repetetive and clunky but the ideas are monumental, and it's incredibly funny. not just an influential book but a profoundly prophetic one

I had never heard of this until recently, despite having read and loved 1984 and brave new world and generally claiming myself a fan of dystopian fiction....

Found it hard going to begin with, so many words from the protagonist to seemingly say so little, but it worked to set the tone for the world and where the story went.

I recommend reading in as short a time as you can, having read the first half slowly and the second in two larger reading sessions.

Still not entirely sure how I feel about it... which I guess is where fiction of this sort often leaves one.
