5 stars. i see why she’s considered a revolutionary woman. she talks about breast cancer but also so much more. she discusses feminism, mastectomy’s, family, friendship, love, women, gender, sexuality, difficult life decisions, and so much more all in 70 pages. ANDDDD she makes u consider and reconsider prosthetics and feminism and cancer so many times. i learned so much and my view of life and cancer is forever changed.

what a woman. wow.

It is not possible to properly give Audre her due. I’ll just say - what a gift. Thank you for showing us another way.

Audre Lorde is such a perfect revolutionist and writer; it seems she was brought into this world in one piece, like a pearl, ready to put pen to paper and introduce the most radical ideas in the simplest of words.

This was a fantastic book where Audrey Lorde documents her journey being treated for breast cancer, pulling from some of her own journal entries written in the late 70s.

Imani “Crutches and Spice” recommended this on one of her tiktok videos and I feel it is essential reading for anyone navigating health issues and disability and anyone working in the health industry. I also think this should be top of the TBR for activists.

The story Audre Lorde shares is short, hopeful and radical in how it shifted my perspective.  It also gives such an interesting view of the state of breast cancer treatment in the late 70s.  I highly recommend it.

Thought provoking story about Audre’s experience with breast cancer. Well-written book that can help spark a conversation about women’s image after a breast removal.
