Dit is de derde keer dat ik deze serie opnieuw lees.
Omdat het een kinderboek is, beoordeel ik het ook als een kinderboek;
4.5 / 5 sterren

at times the plot seemed slightly unoriginal, but maintained being interesting. Plus rangers, I like rangers.

I read the entire Ranger's Apprentice series back when I was a kid, and I remember how completely in love I was with it. I used to fantasize about being skilled like a Ranger myself, and think about how cool it would be to live in a world like this.
It was a reading experience that I don't think I will ever have again, as I simply do not have the age for it anymore. But I will always be grateful for what this series gave me back then and it will always have a little reserved spot in my heart because of it.

I wanted to revisit this world for nostalgic reasons, but I was also genuinely curious to find out if this book still holds up. I can now confidently say that I still think this is a truly entertaining book with incredibly likable characters set in a fascinating world.
Of course these books are definitely aimed towards a younger audience than myself, so I'm sure I would not have loved it as much if I didn't have fond childhood memories of this series already, but I do think that that is not all it is. It's a good adventure/fantasy novel, even without prior attachment. It really is.

I think one of the most important factors as to why this book is so enjoyable, is because it has a very wholesome, heart-warming and sweet vibe to it while still having great world-building with interesting skill sets, and also being very action-packed. It has so much, and it gives just enough of everything.

My biggest, and perhaps only, complaint would be that sometimes it does feel like we are being told a lot of things, rather than shown. It would have been nice to sometimes dive a little bit deeper into the actual setting and situation, instead of merely glossing over it, vaguely being told that something has happened or is happening.
I think this is probably a result of this being a book aimed towards younger people, though, so I don't actually mind it all that much. It might even be appropriate for the book's purpose, so maybe I'm wrong in calling it a complaint, and should actually call it 'something I personally didn't love so much while reading it now, but I'm sure was actually great when I read it the first time'.

I wasn't really sure what to expect with this one. It came with a high recommendation, but I honestly knew nothing about it at all, so it was pretty much a blind reading. I ended up being really surprised by how much I liked it! It's a pretty standard coming of age fantasy story, but it was very well written. I believe it's marketed as YA or maybe even middle grade, but it didn't feel "young" at all to me. I really liked the characters, and the plot was fun and light. Overall, it was a really quick and quite enjoyable read. I've already ordered the next four in the series, and can't wait to try them out! Definitely recommended.

I think that this series will be really good!

I just wanted to start this series off, just to try it out and I think that it will be pretty good. I love Will and how cool he is and I almost thought that Halt was his father and I'm still suspecting.

What a sweet, chill book :) everyone in this book is weirdly uncomplicated in an endearing way. A great introduction to fantasy for any age. (audiobook, for book club)
