Absolutely DEVOURED this book in less than 24 hours. Could not put it down, save for the incredibly emotional moment that had me flinging the book across the table. The MMC and FMC are beautifully, heartbreakingly written. This love story is absolutely epic and worth every heart pounding second.

Only thing preventing 5 stars is a slightly white-savior tone to the war in Afghanistan.

I enjoyed the love story and both main characters. Even if they were a bit cliche, Yarros did a wonderful job writing two unique individuals. The story was a bit unbelievable and dramatic at times, and the main conflict seemed like a misunderstanding that would realistically be resolved between two people who truly cared for one another.
While I did like it, it’s nothing more than a basic love story- which is fine! - but not my favorite thing to read.

I went into this not knowing what to expect and a little sceptical after loving Fourth Wing and Iron Flame so much. However the unexpected was the best surprise I could have asked for. I read the blurb and thought yeah not too bad but it was so much more than just the blurb.

Let me set the scene, 10 years ago you’re on a plane sat next to the best looking guy you’ve ever seen, but as you take off, the plane crashes and mr handsome literally saves you and pretends to be your husband so he can stay with you at the hospital. Hooked? Yeah me too. But when you wake up he’s gone to carry out his duty in the army. 3 years later you coincidentally bump into him and try to meet yearly all over the world for 1 week until you don’t. Fast forward 4 years again and you’ve landed in Afghanistan where he is assigned to protect you. What could possibly happen when you’re reunited with your “what if”?

I absolutely loved this book. Each chapter switched from present day to a different point throughout their 10 years which I loved. It gave the insight of their lives prior to why they act like they do at present. Nate is everything you want in a MMC; protective, strong, swoony, rugged and just such a book boyfriend. Izzy, is just Izzy. I didn’t dislike her at all but I wanted to scream so bad “Why would you let this man go?” But then the more I read the more I understood.

Overall, this was the perfect second chance but also first chance book. I wanted nothing but a happy ending for them both and loved every minute of reading this book.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tropes include:
  • Military Romance
  • Second Chance/First Chance
  • Fated Mates
  • Bodyguard
  • Touch Her and Die
  • Their What If

I started reading Rebecca Yarros because of the fourth wing, but will continue to read Rebecca Yarros because of this book. It was a simple read, but I was easily wrapped up in the characters and the story line. The pace felt easy, and I usually have a hard time bouncing back and forth between characters and time periods, but i tracked with the change up easily in this book. Added bonus: super solid smut scenes with emotional elements.

Oof. This was really good. The dual POV and timeline gave “One Day” vibes and I was totally here for it. It kept me on the edge of my seat with an ache in my chest from cover to cover. Tears were shed. Will definitely be reading more of Yarros’s contemporary stuff.

This book was amazing! I normally have a harder time getting into a romance book but this one had me hooked from the second I started reading it. The premise is interesting and every chapter reveals a new puzzle piece in a beautiful love story. Also it’s giving enthusiastic consent.
At the same time it is raw and I had a couple of moments where I had to put the book down and think about the reality in which we live.
Would recommend but maybe not to everyone as there are quite some triggering moments described.

A plane crash changes the life of a man and woman in ways they can’t describe. They form a lasting bond over ten years and reunite in war torn Afghanistan.
