It was a fine book but it is genuinely just your copy paste run of the mill modern military romance novel. Perfect petite blonde girl who wants to do charity work for a living and macho, emotionally closed off man chiseled by the gods who come from different walks of life and life keeping them apart. The side characters added some depth but the whole time I was reading I kept thinking “I think I’ve seen this film before.” If you like this genre and the pining for 10 years, gated lovers troupe you will like bc the writing is good and the descriptions are good and I enjoyed it as a quick, light read but I was ultimately bored and knew the ending like 1 chapter into the book.
I was super excited to read bc I got it on first reads for July and haven’t read Fourth Wing yet but have seen the hype. Don’t think I realized it was a military romance and that’s not really my thing. Also it does seem a little —— interesting choice to use the collapse of the Afghan government as the plot for a romance novel where it’s all cutesy happy endings but… that’s just my opinion.
