Beautiful, funny, tragic. I loved these poems about motherhood. A great gift for new parents. And, I guess old ones like me, too.

This is novelist Louise Erdrich's sister, and her poetry is as fantastic as Louise's prose writing. This book offers poems for women contemplating motherhood, for those who have taken the plunge, and for the sleepy, 3AM-feeding mothers who curse know-it-all, "how to fix your baby" doctors who make big bucks selling books and DVDs. When a friend introduced us by email, Heid even sent me tips on how to read while breastfeeding. If you only make two forays into contemporary poetry, I'd recommend buying this book and María Meléndez' How Long She'll Last in This World, either for yourself or as a gift for a new or expectant mom.

Poems about trying to get pregnant, pregnancy, taking care of a baby. Reclaiming the Ojibwe tongue. Good stuff but I'm not sure I need to keep this book.
