Once again an effortless and highly enjoyable read! It’s my second Lauren Asher’s book and her writing style flows really smoothly, it’s so easy to get into her stories!

DeclanIris served SO many tropes. Grumpy x sunshine, marriage of convenience, boss x assistant, age gap (~24/36 for those who’d like to know before picking it up)…
Their dynamic, energy and banter were immaculate from the start. Iris’ strong will and warmth VS Declan’s authority and seriousness? Chef’s kiss.

Iris knowing so many details about Declan and Declan himself actually noticing so many things about her, the jealousy, Iris’ mom and her Nana… Immaculate characters and interactions.

At first I wasn’t sure I’d love DeclanIris as much as I loved RowanZarah, but actually… I think I do. I cackled and laughed and grinned and had to take deep breaths— that’s proof enough. I just really love the Dreamland Billionaires series.

One thing I have to comment on, and that made me drop half a star, is the way chapters were built: they consisted mostly of very short scenes, coming one after the other, therefore making each chapter feels more like a succession and glimpses into some things rather than an actual overall narrative. It personally threw me off a little.

The second thing that made me drop another half star was the conflict/argument 86% in. It felt a bit stretched considering Declan acted literally meaner during this unjustified argument than he ever did to Iris throughout the whole book. He is cold and harsh— granted. But she always met him eye for eye, until this really unfear and nasty argument. I was a bit disappointed by the way this went down. At least Iris made him grovel.

That’s why I’m settling for a solid 4 stars— had an overall great time!

i felt like something was missing. maybe more grovelling? more of the relationship with side characters? i don't know but it messed up my reading experience.
