I don’t know how I feel.

This whole review contains spoilers.

Declan Kane is an even bigger jerk than Rowan Kane. Despite this fact, I still tried to root for him. It was extremely difficult for the first 200ish pages, then it was really easy for a while, but his fight with Iris was hard to come back from. Maybe it’s my PTSD 🙃

I am a sucker for happy endings like the one we got in this book, though, so my judgement is definitely cloudy.

The dynamic between Declan and Iris made me super uncomfortable. He never took no for an answer, even at the end, with the exception of once. This was made worse by the fact that it’s portraying a relationship between a wealthy white man and a black woman who works for him. The main thing I liked his how much Callum was in this, it made me look forward to reading his book even after not liking this one.

Loved the first book in the series, but this one did not scratch that itch for me. Read this if you’re looking for a grumpy/sunshine & diverse relationship. I loved Iris, and there were some really great parts to the book, but it definitely just fell flat.

Touches on emotional abusive relationships, but doesn’t have much of a character development in the end.

Would have loved it if Declan didn’t emotionally abuse everyone the entire book & then say “oh I want to be a better person” like where was the proof. He ended up just buying her things to apologize for his abuse, when in reality that is how abusive relationships continue!
I would have just preferred to see some extra development like Rowan in the first book. I usually prefer a duel POV, but every time it was Declan’s POV I just felt bored - like there was no development for his behavior, he knew it was wrong yet continued.
