This "review" is really just a reminder to myself not to pick up this book again. It is a YA book that really isn't appealing to an adult reader, at least not to this adult reader. It was simply too much of a stretch while being predictable at the same time.

It was boring, hard to read, and confusing, they wouldn't explain anything, there was no world building, you're thrown into the book not knowing anything and then it's never explained

Clippy storytelling. Lots of SHOCKING thing first, then background info - MAYBE - after event, but I'm all in on bone witches of any telling.

The world-building is incredible. Just fantastic.

But the character depth is frustrating in that it relies on a repetition of "I have a duty, and a I'm bound by the Covenant."

The character doesn't show tension between choices, as much as it just tells you that there is tension.

There isn't so much character growth or relationship growth, as much as the author just decides to tell you it has happened.

Perfectly fine read. The character development is not earned, and they are annoying as a result.

But the world-building. This is what I love this author for.

And the story structure is solid. It's very refreshing.

Loved the world building and the magic. It would have been a five star read if not for the unrealistic yet predictable romance.
