I didn’t really give this much of a chance, but I wasn’t really interested after reading a few pages.

Sweeter Than Maple Ice Cream and Fried Chicken
THIS SERIES IS SO CUTE!!! Also this is me begging the universe for Chu’s Restaurant to somehow become a real show because I need something to fill the Schitt’s Creek void. I liked book two just biiiiiit better, but The Sitcom Star was really adorable. I loved watching them go on dates and really get to know each other. It was pretty slow burn, which worked really well with the friends-to-lovers set up.

I read the annotated version that I bought via supporting Jackie Lau's kickstarter and it was really fun to read her notes. The MCs attended school together and now she's the producer and front runner of a Schitt's Creek-esque TV show. Maddie is on a mental health break and taking a step back from the behind the camera production and bumps (literally) into her old friend.
As usual with Jackie Lau it's a sweet, fun story gallivanting around Toronto. Maddie's celebrity status is a big focus point, and Adrian's family life (especially his nephew) is very nicely done.
Moderate: Racism

This was, as always, an enjoyable excursion from Jackie Lau, but it's not one of my favorites of hers. It felt too short in a lot of ways, and I didn't fully engage with the characters. Maddie and Adrian are endearing but straightforward, and the secondary characters aren't as engaging as in some of Lau's best books. Basically I'm not sorry I own a hard copy of this book, but if I didn't I wouldn't buy one, you know?
