short but precisely packed with meaning, Kristóf’s memoir explores a life in exile from her home nation, surrounded by a hostile and unfamiliar language. her decision to write in French, despite her challenges with it, fundamentally shaped her use of language as a writer and is behind her sparse and observational prose style. every word has been carefully chosen, nothing is out of place. 

anyways, I love books by writers about their relationship with the act of writing and this one is unique. well worth the read.
