I think it has been nearly a decade since I have been so affected by a single author's works. Victoria Schwab's writing fulfills every need and craving that a voracious reader a fantasy would have. While this is suppose to be a review for the last book in the chronicle of three, I would argue that this is more of a review for all of her writings.

Schwab has the innate ability to spin worlds of light and dark, to conjure and destroy, and all the while creating characters that both surprise and engage, but also maintain the flaws of humanity that make it impossible for us as readers not to find them appealing. Her characters are not simply good or bad or even just treacherous, but have the wishes and wants beyond the single dimension of paper. They need to feel and be loved, and contain the same desire to be seen and heard that consumes all of us.

The best part, Schwab's mind is as creative as my nightmares. From Vicious to The Archives, I find myself continuing to fall in love with her characters - each violently fresh and different from any that came before. Thank you Victoria for sharing your writing with us. It is one of life's pleasures to be your reader.

Some parts of the book felt too slow, and I think in some ways the many chapters and parts made me less inclined to pick it up. It was a good ending to the series, the stakes felt real and the actions believable. But still I was not invested. The audio helped a bit, even tho I was not a huge fan of the narrators, they made the characters sound too old or whiny.

I think I will continue with the next series, but I will most likely wait until more books are out.

Darker by a fair bit than the last two, and honestly a little bloated, but utterly absorbing and satisfying just the same. I like this series a little better in hindsight than while reading it, but that works, because I spend a lot longer remembering than reading. All of which is to say that I still want Kell's coat and I think Rhy will do very well and I think in the end Holland kind of won my heart.
