Momentami się dłużyło, ale za bardzo przywiązałam się do postaci ❤️

What the hell did I just read? Why am I crying? I am so utterly satisfied with this book and the end of this trilogy. It was wild, restrained, enchanting, alarming, and I loved every word.

And I won't even go on about the Steel Knights. I left my jaw on the palace steps...

VE Schwab stuck the landing on this series in the last third. There were a few extraneous scenes / subplots that didn’t feel particularly necessary, but overall it added to the complexity of this world, and fit in the end.

What a whirlwind of a book. I enjoyed the perspective of other characters sprinkled in, as we were able to see inside more characters' heads. The stakes were VERY high, and the loss was great, so the victory didn't feel too easy and there was still a cost to it. I'm glad Kell, Lila, and Emery had to leave Arnes to find a way to defeat Osaron, as it broke up the plot and gave us a new setting. Enjoyed that Ned had his moment to shine. Forever grateful that the romance between Kell and Lila was secondary, that it didn't dominate the plot. Same with Rhy and Emery. I love them all, and prefer my romance as more of a subplot in fantasy settings. Overall a very satisfying, bittersweet ending.

2nd reading: Still love it! The 2nd in the series is still my favorite because of the Essen Tasch [bonus points to me for spelling that correctly without having ever seen it written because I've only ever listened to this series]... but I love seeing more of Holland in this one. I think he might be my favorite.

1) Narration: GAWD I HATE KATE READING. But her husband's reading voice is awesome. So I'll manage, if they MUST narrate together.
2) Story: Like many 3rd-books-in-the-series, this one seems to just keep going with very little rest. I liked it, but I think my fave in the series is the 2nd! Also, some "big reveals" that weren't such big reveals and weren't really treated that way in this one. *shrug* It was good anyway!
