Not only did I fall in love with Dexter Cross, but also his friend group. I can't wait to read more about each of them finding love. Tate was so adorable. Also everyone should have a friend like Jules. The love and care Dex showed to Lanie was so beautiful. This story will make you laugh, cry and smile.
I thought this was a good book. We had two characters Dex and Lanie that had both gone through a lot in their lives. This is a true story of two people who had been through the wringer and figuring out how to heal from that.
Dex was a pretty amazing guy, who set out to prove that he was a person and family who could support Lanie. I also thought that Lanie was a super sassy lady, who put the three kids she was nannying for ahead of everything.
I thought that Tate (the little boy) was a great addition to the book. He added to the relationship that developed both with Lanie and Dex. I thought the entire cast of characters were great additions to the book and I loved how we added both people's friends, with their stories continuing in future books. I also loved the discussion of found family, and choosing your family.
This story made me tear up many times. Watching these two people fall for each other, and help them heal was amazing. I thought this was a great book, with great writing. I will be checking out more of Avery Maxwell's books in the future!

A heartwarming and angsty romance
Wow! I'm so glad that Lucy Score introduced me to Avery Maxwell books! What a great romance. I loved the found family and the determination of Dexter to win over Lanie. On to the next book!

She is perfect as a nanny can't do any wrong. He doesn't believe it and is only looking for the bad than they are falling in like 10 pages and I didn't like the writing style it felt shallow to me. She has some issue but that's all I knew.
ich schwöre die haben alle mommy issues
und es ist echt lame
but ig the kids and the friends were nice

Enjoyable start to the series
This is the first book in a series, and centers around Lanie and Dex. He is divorced dad of a six-year-old son and 11-month-old twin girls, he finds himself in desperate need of a nanny. She was a social worker who was brutally attacked 18 months previously, and still trying to recover emotionally. She grew up with a piece of trash mother who hated her, but was fortunate enough to be welcomed in to her bff’s family as a child. Her mother verbally abused her all her life, and even told her the brutal attack was her own fault and that she deserved it. Basically, she’s trash. Her bff convinces her to move away from their small town in Vermont for a year, in an effort to heal herself away from all the memories. This is how she becomes the new nanny.
Dex’s exwife was a piece of work. She treated their son like garbage, told him she was abandoning them because he wasn’t good enough, and handed Dex divorce papers the same day his father died. She was pregnant with their twin girls, and signed over all parental rights as long as he handed her a check to start over with. Lanie comes in a breathes new life into his family. From the get-go everyone is smitten with her. Dex thought he’d never love again, but spends the next year pursuing Lanie. Lanie spends the year bonding with the kids and Dex, but also pushing them all away over and over. It became frustrating to see her keep saying “but I’m too broken” every other paragraph. Dex literally spends a year with his friends and hers working and plotting every day to make sure she knows she is loved and wanted and trying to convince her to stay when her year is up. And she just kept letting them in, only to say she was too broken. The group texts between Dex and friends were hilarious and a highlight of the story. I understand she had a crappy mother, and a traumatic assault. But she just vacillated between this snarky and confident persona and this “whoa is me” bit. It dragged on and on.
Overall, the story was enjoyable. The side characters were great, and I look forward to reading their stories as well.

It was bad.
The writing style didn‘t catch me and the whole plot feels rushed. It was love at first sight, but very bad written and with no chemistry. I couldn‘t stand it, I‘m sorry.

I loved how sweet Dex was. He was unfathomably patient with Lanie. I loved how brave Lanie was. She was so strong. I love the found family aspect of the story.
I found though that I lost interest about 60% through. I felt like the author skipped parts of the story I really wanted to read (like dex confronting Anne, why the senator attacked Lanie again, etc) I also had a hard time following the timeline of the story. I couldn’t pick out what time of the year the story was taking place in.

I won this book in a Goodreads giveaway (a couple years ago—don’t judge me) and I finally got around to reading it. I absolutely loved the story and the characters were so fun. The group texting dynamic was really cute and I would totally read the next story of Julia and Trevor. Tate was really the star of the show.
The insta-lust and immediate sexual banter was a little unbelievable (especially with your boss) and the writing style was a little choppy with some weird wording choices during the sexy scenes (“nectar?”…*excuse me while I gag*). This is really the only reason I gave the book 4 stars instead of 5. Other than that, this was an extremely quick read and I’m glad I was able to read it.

How I loved to see Dex get rattled by Lainey, he is always cool, calm collect and in control when dealing with people but he has met his match with Lainey. Then your heart breaks for Lainey as you know she has a past that haunts her and as much as she has moved forward the times it rushes back and makes her withdraw makes you want to pick her up and give her the biggest hug. I really liked how the story unfolded and you got to see them get close to each other but be wary of whats happening, and those gorgeous wee kids they just melt your heart! You go through laughter, sadness, shock, love while turning the page needing to know if Dex and Lainey are really meant to be together.
