  • C: the characters were well described & memorable, there were just a whole lot of relevant side characters, so that i lost track of who some of them were.
  • A: was good, nothing outstanding
  • W: i found it a bit confusing that it was in third person, but also a lot in first person when pippa wrote her epq
in the beginning the writing style felt very much for children. but overall i felt it was a great mix between being suitable for teens as well as adults.
  • P: at first i wasn't so sure if i liked it, but in the end the plot twists did really surprise me. sometimes there were things that were clear too me much before pippa caught them, for example when it was mentions, that naomi is now using a pre paid sim card because her phone is broken, that instantly rang all alarm bells for me but pippa didn't think anything of it till much later. on the other hand there were things i didn't catch at all until pippa mentioned them.
  • I: at first it dragged a tiny bit and the writing style bothered me a bit. in the end i was really intrigued though.
  • L: as mentioned above, something there were super obvious things, that pippa missed & sometimes she connected things that i wouldn't have seen her result as a logic conclusion. but over all there wasn't a big hole in the logic, that would have bothered me.
  • E: i enjoyed this book more than i thought i would, but in the end, it is a book for teens.

I don't think I've read this kind of YA Thriller Mystery before or at least not in the last 10 years. And while I do think I don't exactly fall into the main target group of this story, I did enjoy it a lot. Here and there the sarcastic banter was a bit cringe to me but then again I'm not a teenager anymore lol. I liked Pippa and her determined personality but I also think some things were over the top - like the reference to the title when she asked herself if she still was a good girl after "everything she'd done". girl - be so fr right 😭 that for example felt very forced and kind of pathetic.
Otherwise I enjoyed her and Ravis relationship and that the author didn't really focus on explicitly telling us how Pippa felt. That too would've probably felt a bit forced bc it was quite clear they were gonna end up together in the beginning.
Another thing I think was done quite well were the complex family dynamics - as far as it gets when the POV is the mind of a teenage girl occupied with solving a crime and homework. Pips reflections about that felt authentic and age appropriate.
