Hands down, the best murder mystery I have ever read in my life. So many unexpected twists and turns. Age 14+

this was a very good read - super easy to get through, and felt like a palette cleanser.
only complaint is it felt a bit too YA for the mature topics that were in it, hence the lower rating, but overall i thoroughly enjoyed it and the ending was really nice!
highly recommend

This book is was such an amazing and fun read. I couldn’t put it down for most of the time I was reading it.  So much so that I even read it in the car even though I get car sick and I stayed up late to finish it. It’s perfect  for getting into the mystery genre if you’re new like me. It keeps you on your toes for a good majority of the book. The twists were definitely not what I was expecting and I would not have figured it out (maybe cause I’ve only read like 2 mystery books including this one so my detective skills aren’t so great). But it was definitely an entertaining read and I can’t wait to start the next book.

personal review notes:

C 8/10
A 7/10
W 6/10
P 8/10
I 7/10
L 5/10
E 6/10

-> 6.7/10
->  3 stars

  • C: the characters were well described & memorable, there were just a whole lot of relevant side characters, so that i lost track of who some of them were.
  • A: was good, nothing outstanding
  • W: i found it a bit confusing that it was in third person, but also a lot in first person when pippa wrote her epq
    in the beginning the writing style felt very much for children. but overall i felt it was a great mix between being suitable for teens as well as adults.
  • P: at first i wasn't so sure if i liked it, but in the end the plot twists did really surprise me. sometimes there were things that were clear too me much before pippa caught them, for example when it was mentions, that naomi is now using a pre paid sim card because her phone is broken, that instantly rang all alarm bells for me but pippa didn't think anything of it till much later. on the other hand there were things i didn't catch at all until pippa mentioned them.
  • I: at first it dragged a tiny bit and the writing style bothered me a bit. in the end i was really intrigued though.
  • L: as mentioned above, something there were super obvious things, that pippa missed & sometimes she connected things that i wouldn't have seen her result as a logic conclusion. but over all there wasn't a big hole in the logic, that would have bothered me.
  • E: i enjoyed this book more than i thought i would, but in the end, it is a book for teens.
