thrilling, misleading, complicated, and fully serving the gullible persistence of the YA audience.

50% mark i didn’t know if i could/would continue, the repetition and messy plot twists were hitting a nerve.

but we’ll worth seeing it through in the end!

low key villains i’d like to see about in the sequel: the rookie cop & his wife, andie’s dad, definitely naomi and the loser journalist steve. i need them to get some straightening with all their closet skeletons

This book really had me hooked and I just couldn't put it down, it really was suspense filled as you follow Pip on the journey to what really happened to Andie Bell and her boyfriend, Sal Singh after it was believed for years that Sal had killed Andie and then killed himself due to the guilt of murdering his girlfriend.
However, Pip uses this event for her EVQ and researches it in every way she can, including interviewing potential suspects and even using what has been said in these interviews to try and piece together what really happened. All while receiving threats to stop what she is doing and is even told to destroy her laptop and memory sticks that contain her research in order to get her dog, Barney, back. Only, Barney turns up dead... Despite all the threats, Pip still continues to work on solving this crime and is able to link a number on her phone to a number in Andie's diary, but who does it belong to? Did this person have something to do with her disappearance?
Pip shows a willingness to prove Sal's innocence, despite him no longer being in the world with them. This works in her favour, even if she comes face to the face with the perpetrators and nearly gets herself killed in the process, but throughout it all, she had one person by her side... Ravi Singh.
This was so worth the 5⭐ rating. I cannot wait to read the next two books!

♡ Cold Case
♡ Small Clues
♡ Murder Board

The plot was a bit cliché but entertaining enough.  It is unfortunate that the US edition had so much edited out, there are just moments that feel skipped over or some parts that seem missing general.  But in the end it was a good story.

I loved the formatting of this book, all the extra details like the schedules, text messages, were all formatted nicely.  It was an entertaining to read, it had twists and turns, an unlikely friendship, a killer hiding in plain sight, and a school project that turned into solving a murder.

Spice Level: n/a
POV: Third Person
Release Date: 05, January 2021
Rep: BIPOC (Main Character and Side Characters), Lesbian (Side Character)

this was a very good read - super easy to get through, and felt like a palette cleanser.
only complaint is it felt a bit too YA for the mature topics that were in it, hence the lower rating, but overall i thoroughly enjoyed it and the ending was really nice!
highly recommend
