I’m honestly still unsure about my thoughts and feelings for this book. It certainly reads really fast - the suspense pushes you to devour the story for sure. 

I enjoy reading darker stories as I find morally ambiguous characters compelling. This is one of the cases where all the characters are unlikeable; some worse than others. Surprisingly, that wasn’t the reason for the rating. Initially, I was going for 4 stars. However, I felt like there were some variables of the story which didn’t make sense in terms of plausibility. This was written like a thriller so the resolution should’ve made sense, right? The ending wasn’t the issue - it’s how we got there. I doubt certain things could happen without ANYONE noticing.? Especially, the medical staff. 

In terms of “teams”, I’m team manuscript. I think the behavior we caught a glimpse of outside the pages was eerily similar to the written persona. I think the letter is one last shot at maintaining control.

I think she wanted Lowe to find it and not Jeremy. One last game of securing her obsession

. Some of the manuscript pages made me sick and I honestly wish I could forget about them. 

I don’t know if I’m keeping the rating as is but until I clear my thoughts fully, this makes sense to me.

This book was a rollercoaster of a ride. I read this in more or less one day as it was so gripping. Honestly the ending had me shook, and I don't know what to believe, I do like the use of an ambiguous ending as it allows you to make up your own opinion on what happened. I did have some issues with this book such as the mention of a lot of non consensual sex which did not further the plot in anyway or was addressed at any point. I also felt that the story could potentially gave a poor representation of mental health

in particular Munchausen's as Verity fakes being able bodied and makes everyone around her view her as ill

. Other than the issues I found it was a good thriller overall, but not a book to read late at night.

I would like to add a warning to those that may/experience paranoia, this may be best to skip as it multiple points throughout the book the writing alludes to feeling like you are being watched or people are out to get you, which I personally found lead to my own paranoid thoughts. I would maybe also give this book a pass if you have emetophobia, I do believe one of the characters is sick, but also the book may make you feel physically sick due to the nature of some of the content mentioned within the book. I hope's this helps someone :)

Once I started reading I could barely stop. This was such an immersive experience, honestly. So frigging good. The best introduction I could have possibly had to Colleen Hoover!

I am going to add that I thought the sex scenes were a bit unnecessary at times; feel like it could have been shorter and less explicit.
