I read this book when I was about the same age as the main character and it stuck with me. Gothic, moody, engrossing, creepy. The movie was the same.

A good quick read. Creepy in a latent way. Here you have a sleepy village in New England during the 70s which is cozy - but then the unsettling story of this young girl and the mystery of her circumstances. The juxtaposition between the setting and the plot was enjoyable.
