It was an alright read, I detested the main characters inner dialogue and how she was chasing after a boy who was already involved in a relationship. The plot twist wasn’t overall shocking and the foreshadowing was abundantly clear from the start, overall wasn’t great, but wasn’t bad either.

This book made my brain hurt

First off, why did they light the fire from inside the house? I don't care how drunk you are, you can't be that stupid! The author failed to convince me that the Sinclair Family was ever a rich and prestigious family. The grandpa seems so fake. In one chapter he's all happy-go-lucky and in the next he's threatening his own family, I don't know what his superior motive with the Sinclairs even is. The ending was so out of nowhere. I don't know how someone can hallucinate their friends to that extent. And to blame it on the medicine? What kind of medicine was Cadence taking? I think her doctors are drug dealers. Sorry if this review makes no sense.

That twist ending was dumb and pissed me off. There were no hints, which makes me mad. This all went downhill once I learned she killed the dogs.

We Were Liars was nothing like I expected. The first huge chunk of the book I fought the urge to skim and skip to the "good part" which I was so sure would come. It did not. There was a surprising twist near the end. Cady came to terms with things and had some character development, but I can't say I liked her, or really any of her family. The vivid descriptions of her headaches were beautiful, the poetry style and the fairytales were a nice touch, so stars for that. I've seen people saying they re-read it to piece together details they missed, and while I was confused for most of the book, it is not good enough to re-read imo.
