People either love or hate this book but personally, I loved it. I felt like the author did a great job of revealing details at the right time and wrote the dialogue of the main character in a way that was appropriate for the character.

I liked this book and would definitely consider reading it again after learning the plot twist. <I thought the plot twist was going to be that Gat left her in the water to drown or one of the aunts drowned her to prevent her from getting the inheritance and I was surprised. I enjoy a good plot twist and it is for that reason that I liked it, although I thought the ghosts thing was weird. Like were they her imagination, but then why did they show up again after she realized>

OH. MY. GOD.

There aren't words to quantify my reaction to that twist. My jaw physically dropped.

This book? A masterpiece. I can't wait to reread it knowing what I know now because it was there the whole time under my nose. I'll admit, I had to reread the twist a couple times before it clicked. It didn't make sense--and then it did. Few books I've read have earned more of a 5 star rating than this one has. The writing is masterful in every way, the work of Lockhart is truly brilliant.

I Should of left this book in 2014 where it belongs. I read this book when it came out when I was 14, and I wanted to re-read it now at nearly 23  before the prequel comes out this year. When I read it when I was younger I really enjoyed this, and the big plot twist had me in shock. Now it doesn't, I thought the characters were annoyingly pretentious and out of touch, and Candice is just plain stupid. There is also very little plot, and when there is plot it is everywhere. I think there are far better YA thriller/mysteries out there.
