The writing style was beautiful. Fastest I have read a book. However, I am still left confused with many questions. I did not cry.

No hate to anyone who likes the book and the author, just my opinion :)

1. Even though the book is mysterious I didn’t think that it was intriguing. It could have been because every one else knew about the cause of the injury except Cady that it took away that mystery feel
2. The characters are really childish (at least to me) so I kept picturing them as young children rather than kids in their late teens. Personally this changed the feeling of the novel
3. The characters didn’t have that much depth so I couldn’t like or love the characters. Though ironically I did hate Cady and Gat, and Johnny and Mirren were tolerable but annoying at times. Cady seemed selfish and dramatic most of the time, and Gat seemed like a know-it-all/arrogant person with a victim complex. He was also quite dramatic
4. The relationship between Gat and Cady also doesn’t have that much depth so their relationship didn’t really feel developed, and actually felt quite weird and ‘misplaced’. E.g. it was weird to see Cady say “my Gat” and say she is in love with him when it feels like they’re not even together in any way (and also feels like they don’t talk much)
5. A good thing that racism and patriarchy was discussed, though it was a poor execution and could have been explored in a far better way (and, again, in more depth)
6.
the fire / swimming being the cause of her head injury, amnesia, etc, was anti-climatic (especially when it was just ‘The Liars’ being stupid)

Tbh it is an extremely overrated book, and nowhere near as emotional as social media made it out to be (for me personally). I did start to skim the pages a bit after I got half way through so I may have missed some things, but nonetheless I didn’t enjoy it and found it rather boring

ITS SO SO GOOD, i never saw the plot ending, i hated the ending but it was what made the book so loveable and rereadble; once you read the plot twist itll make you wanna reread it and notice things and it would change your whole mindset the second time reading it. The end made me sad and mad but it was what made the book different from others. The other parts were not as intriguing but I promise just read to the end.

I thought this book was edging me on on topics that I wanted to know more about. The author briefly mentioned topics such as racism, white privilege, and classism. I didn’t quite understand why the author mentioned them without having those conversations. I guess considering <possible spoiler> the ending those conversations couldn’t be had. I also thought the book was kinda slow, it focused heavily on the MC Cady Sinclair and her wading through her memories and remembering them which I personally didn’t like. I did like how the author put what the MC was going through in a fairytale format. It was really creative and told a story without actually confessing anything, which I feel like is very reminiscent of the Sinclair family. There were parts where I wasn’t sure where the MC was being dramatic and where the MC was being serious. She mentions a part where
her dad shoots her??? and then turns out it was a metaphor for him hurting her??? I don’t know I was confused…
. I liked how the book kept me asking questions along with the MC, I spent the whole book trying to figure out what else happened and how it fit in the story. I loved the ending and was not really expecting it and it made me cry so hard. I liked this book and would read it once more in the future to see if I get more of it.
