omg. this was amazing. the way it is written and structured is just so good. it thrilled me and wrecked me and I loved the characters so much.

This is the perfect "read in one sitting" kind of book, and I found the twist to be both unexpected and satisfying (which is hard to do). A quick, interesting read, with a perfectly flawed and unreliable protagonist/narrator.

honestly kind of expected the ending; i predicted that (only) gat died in the fire and that his presence was cady hallucinating.
nonetheless, i really enjoyed reading this book. although it was a bit slow and took a while to get to the plot twist, it is understandable that it was written that way. cady is trying to figure out things for herself and the slow pace takes us with her.

i love the various metaphors throughout the story. the word choice was fitting to the mood and setting. a lot of the sentences really got to the point as well. very beautiful writing in terms of describing pain and grief.

i have only 3 words:

1) what
2) the
3) HELL

this book was average. until it wasn't anymore. be warned, it will make you cry. no not cry. it will make you bawl. and it will leave your mind reeling. it will leave you wanting to read it again in search of HOW THE HELL you missed the most crucial point of the story.

cadence is flawed, there is 100% no hiding that. she says things that make her seem so privileged but still make you pity her. i do think, that ultimately, these flaws give the end of this story a whole lot more depth. keep the tissues near.

if you are struggling through parts 1 to 4, please pull through !! emily lockheart is an absolute genius with words and formulating the perfect plot.

please read this book. but not before you go to bed. then. read it again. and cry.

((note: i think that the reason i liked this writing so much is because she did something that i never knew i needed: she wrote a human being. "mirren. she is sugar. she is curiosity and rain." to me, that means so much more than "her hair was blonde, her eyes were blue." as people we are told we are so much more than our looks, but in books that was previously all we had to go on. now this is something different. who are we? what are we made of? ))

This was a LOT and I’m very happy it wasn’t spoiled for me. I will be following the directions and lie about the ending if I’m ever asked. Thought I saw the twist coming but I wasn’t ✨quite✨ right. This book made me emotional in a lot of different ways. I loved it and think it was a very well crafted amnesia mystery, and pretty sophisticatedly executed.... except for the

This is a great book to read side by side with someone to bounce predictions and rants off of
