I don't remember how long it took me to read book 5 the first time I started reading this series in 2008 (I gave up in book 9 that time). I'm attempting to reread the series now (>14 years later) and stalled partway through .... got sidetracked by being introduced to romantasy ... and had to start this book over from the beginning again. With my reading habits reinvigorated by my year in the SJM series, I found it easier to stick with it this time and finished it quickly. It had me reflecting on what it is about this book that kept failing to hold my attention ...

Is it just me or does the plot seem to massively slow down in this book?

I'm remembering that was part of the reason I lost interest in my first attempted read through of the series. Is this where it starts?

I HATE death cop-outs. If you kill a character, I expect them to stay dead. Forever. Though the deaths at the end of this book were so abrupt that it was pretty obvious they wouldn't be permanent. But still, I'm annoyed on principle. Let me guess--Moiraine comes back to life at some point, too? No one saw her corpse, after all. I liked her, but I hope she stays dead. I like to think that any of the main characters could die. Not saying that they have to die, but the risk makes it a fun read.
And I still dislike Rand. And why the hell can't he kill women? I don't understand why he's so stupidly sexist. It feels like he is like that simply to add more conflict to the story. "Oh, Rand cannot kill Lanfear, so therefore someone else has to kill her!".
I also really need to look up the spelling of all these names, I feel like I am probably spelling them all wrong in my head.

Ok, on to book 6, I guess...I wonder how this series will end...
