Audio (Eleanor Tomlinson)
* Summary: Desperate to marry a wealthy man to protect her sisters - and recently thrown over by her intended - Kitty strikes out to the London Season, garners the affections of a silly man, and butts heads with his much more insightful brother.
* Stats: HR, MF, kisses only, part of a series but stands alone.
* Notes: I really enjoyed this - It struck me as a great balance of honesty and humour, and the subtlety of the developing relationship between the mains worked for me. I believe they will be happy together and will have a relationship that gives each what they as an individual need. I thought the characters were really well developed, and that they avoided the archetype traps. The side cast does get a little large, but they’re all interesting and well used by the plot. I’ll happily continue the series.
OTT and Spoilery Content Notes:
Death of parents, financial struggle, debt, parentification/kinship care, 20F/27M, veteran mmc, mmc with ptsd/adjustment struggle, alcohol, sex worker parent, blackmail, gambling (side characters), mugging (side characters), substance use (snuff), parent with substance use issues (alcohol), parent with gambling disorder, firearms

A regency era romance book. It was an easy light read and definitely had some great moments. It was much like what i would expect from a book set in this era and genre.

What a delightful trip to London's exciting and glittering past!
I very much enjoyed the writing style, glitz and glamour as well as Kitty's determination to find a suitable match for her needs. The Earl and her really went from verbally crossing swords to, well, crossing tongues.

A very funny book set in regency-era England. Romantic and, for the most part, period accurate. Very impressed with the Author, can’t wait to read the next book.

I found that Kitty the character was too anachronistic for the regency time period. It felt like the author put a woman from the 2020s into the regency period. Her opinions and beliefs felt too modern for the time. And sharing those opinions so directly with Radcliffe (and others) felt more like a hit over the head. It felt unbelievable and took me out of the story. And I also didn't think it was quite believable that she and her sisters wouldn't know anything about society in London, which is basically the epicenter for culture.
If you're looking for a beach read that closely follows the morals of today, then you'll like this one. But if you're more interested in how a person can work within the confines of a restrictive society and still manage to be okay, then this isn't really the book for you.
