I kind of expected this to be more existentialist and eco-horror, but it ended up feeling like more of an action-horror book. It was a fun enough read even though it didn't really live up to my expectations, and the concept is still really cool. The premise of the book relies on the allergies of the main character, which by itself is interesting, but the way the author writes about allergies seems off and not really true to real life to me, someone who has grown up around people with severe allergies The main characters are both annoying and endearing. The two female protagonists are some of the shallowest teenagers I've come across in literature which becomes aggravating when they don't really grow out of it during the story, although I do think the book does a decent job of representing the social dynamics of teenagers. The side character Seth was my favorite. There was a lot to like about this book and the writing was decent, but didn't live up to my expectations. Also the sequel has a lot of potential imo so ill probably end up reading it

I can totally see why sixth graders love this one; fun to read and thrilling but too conveniently plotted for me.

The writing in this book was so horrible, but the story was fascinating enough to keep me reading and actually looking forward to the next books in the series. I don't think the author really knows how teenage girls think and talk, which was my main annoyance with this book. Also the number of times he used "they looked like so-and-so from that show" to describe a person's looks was ridiculous, especially since the shows he was "citing" were fake and gave readers no clue as to what the character actually looked like.

Once the main action started, those flaws faded into the background and I got hooked on the plot. I hadn't realized this was a series, but the final sentence in the book ensured that I will continue on with the story.
