A queer noir detective is on the case to solve the mystery of a missing blackmailer. Andy Mills is having a hard time getting the queer community to trust him after his fall from grace. But when an old flame pops up from the past Andy has to follow every lead and do his best to make people feel safe again. These are solid, well written mysteries that look at a period of queer history that is not talked about enough. Queer folks have ALWAYS been around and we're finally starting to see stories about their lives.

This was a fun, quick, and easy read! This novel was not life changing but it is an enjoyable mystery with LGBTQIA+ characters. I appreciate that Lev Rosen never shys away from the intense oppression and violence these characters would face, but also still provides vivid moments of joy and happiness. It was interesting to get more backstory for Evander Mills, but I do wish it had been a little deeper. I know it is a mystery primarily, but I also love all the characters and would have liked to get to know them all on a deeper level. I think compared to the first novel in this series this one gripped me less due to the lack of building up the secondar characters, like Rosen did with Lavendar House. I will still read the sequel and would recommend this book as a nice quick read for anyone looking for a mystery story or just some fun LGBTQIA+ characters and stories.

Incredibly slow burn on the mystery in this one but it works really well as a character study of our noir detective, Andy, as he comes to terms with his past and works toward his (hopefully happy) future!!

Sometimes I am enjoying a novel so much, I switch to reading something else, so that I can come back to the world of the novel again in a few days.

That was this one. I got to 80%, realized I didn't want to be done with the novel, read something else for a few days.

I really hope the author writes more of this setting.
