Awesome! I loved the variation of intense climbing sports that Krakauer explores. I had read mixed reviews and didn't want to get my hopes up, but I wasn't disappointed. It was wonderful and i highly recommend it!

This book reminds me of the friends I met in my twenties. I never really did the dirt bag thing and man I still really want to. Maybe once I retire.

I love Jon Krakauer's writing and really ascribe to his philosophy that challenging yourself in the outdoors highlights what it means to be alive. The last story in this collection was the standout for me because it captures a mood and I felt like I could understand the impetus for his trip to AK and how he felt throughout his twenty days on the glacier. I also have a soft spot for AK stories.

My one criticism is that there are no stories about women or POC in this collection. Granted alpinism has traditionally been a man's sport but I got tired of reading about female alpinists only as foils to the men in these stories. Given that many of these stories take place in the Himalayas it's interesting that only white men were highlighted. This may be a symptom of the fact that the magazines for which the first eleven stories in this collection were written were extremely whitewashed and sexist up until now (Outside, I'm looking at you, even though I adore you).
