Good book; tells harrowing tales of mountaineering adventures that seem unbelievable. Krakauer's storytelling acumen is shown once again.

Interesting stuff but didn’t do much for me. I do love Krakauer’s writing and the man clearly knows what he’s talking about but the only chapter/story that really clicked for me was the K2 one.

Krakauer dives into the history and appeal of the mountains by talking about his own mountain adventures while highlighting the accomplishments of other highly acclaimed climbers/mountaineers. The book does a dual part in painting the allure of the climb and the pull the mountains have on people while also showing how every person who steps foot into them must be crazy to deal with the onslaught that the mountains bring. It seems that no other athletic endeavor has as high a casualty rate as that of those who attempt to climb the world's biggest peaks. Krakauer builds the dream of the summit and shatters its with one swift storm.

Solid collection of stories, some of which I enjoyed more than others.
