Daphne has been working for Anthony for the last 5 months restoring his relics for his museum he is going to open and has been in "love" with him the whole time, until one night when she over hears him talking to his sister about how plain, unnoticeable and machine like she is, rather effectively breaking her heart and curing her of her infatuation.
Anthony never noticed anything about the woman restoring his relics until the day she quits and basically rips him a new one. He eventually convinces her to stay a few more months to help with the museum pieces and the time they spend together brings them as close to friendship as either has ever really experienced before and then things get steamy.
While I find the plot lines decent I don't think I really vibe with this author, going to try one more book before I decide though.

This was a fantastic spin on the Ugly Duckling stories.

Laura Lee did a great job in writing this novel! Historical romances haven't been able to hold my attention for the past few years but this book reeled me right back in.

I loved the opening premise of this book (her guilty pleasure is watching him work shirtless).

I enjoyed this book very much. I have maybe spoiled it a little for myself because I went through it early on, but nevertheless it was an engaging read. The transaformation of the heroine was remarkably well done, not overdone as it sometimes is in such cases and the determination of the hero made it all the more interesting. The "Great Tragedy" in the hero's past was not as tragic as Guhrke sometimes serves it (but that is good for me) and the ending seemed a little bit hurried.

Unrequited love trope.

Mereka berdua sama-sama kaku.

I enjoyed this one. I love the female lead, once her rose-covered glasses of the male lead drop, It allows her to blossom and in turn, the male lead starts to notice her.

After a slow start this was an excellent read. The moment of change for Daphne was a great catalyst for the story to unfold and I was thoroughly caught up in it.

FMC: 3.5 (at least she makes him work for it but she’s bland as toast for her adventurous upbringing)
MMC: 2.5 (he kinda sucks but in a boring way 😐 like he insults her and is so scared of love he proposes regretfully after taking her v-card)
💕: 2.5 (heavy friends vibes…but the language of flowers was kinda cute)
Plot: 2 (no plot only vibes aka marriage mart shenanigans)
🌶️: 2.75

The “hero” goes from “she is as noticeable as a stick insect on a twig” to “My god, she has beautiful eyes behind those glasses. Maybe there IS a real woman in there.” 🙄🙄🙄 He is objectively horrible about her to his sister, and then overnight crosses the line from completely indifferent to a-boss-being-kind-of-inappropriate because he needs something from her (her archaeological skills).

Just can’t get behind this “love story” no matter how Gurkhe wraps it up.
