Although I thought Cutters writing was good, Shelly ruined this book for me.
The addition of a pointless "crazed psychopath" killer did nothing but make me wish the book didn't have him in it. He was a boring, uninspired character who provided no more tension than the initial premise, and only served to detract from it. He wasn't believable, and it nearly made me stop reading the book. The more I think about it the more annoyed I am by this character, to the point that his pointlessness ruined an otherwise solidly good book.

The Troop was an absolutely wild ride that had me staring at the wall after finishing it.

This book definitely takes inspiration from Lord Of The Flies. The story is about a group of boy scouts that go on a trip to a remote island with their scout master. They come across an extremely ill man, and quickly discover that the man is carrying a deadly virus. Things go downhill quickly, and the group becomes stranded on this remote island. They're trapped on the island with this horrifying virus, and even worse, they're trapped with each other. Their survival skills along with their morals are put to the ultimate test.

There were definitely gruesome and triggering scenes in this book, but it made for a perfect horror read that will stick with you for a long time. I would suggest looking up trigger warnings before reading, though.

Writing was weird and off putting, I don’t care about any of the characters. Story/ plot is off from what I thought it would be. Also too much animal body horror stuff.

Cutter's descriptions are both vile and illuminating. Body horror with a spotlight on it to highlight every squirming maggot and fleshy lesion. The man does it so right.
