This was a crazy read as an adolescent. It stuck with me and I searched for keywords until I found the title several years ago, in adulthood. This was, like, my first psych thriller. It was gnarly. And the ending was !!! so good.
crazy book, the ending was disappointing and the beginning was slow but the middle was where its at. seriously I've never hated so many characters in a book
I really enjoyed this book when I was younger, enough that I ended up quoting it in one of my high school projects. Clever and disturbing with a fabulous message for standing up for what you believe, even if it is the most difficult thing you will ever do.
I read this book a couple times as a teenager and it has haunted me since the first time I read it. I have no idea if it would appeal to me now, maybe I will read it again. The movie "Maze Runner" made me think of it again. Part intrigue, part nightmare.
Such an interesting book. I have to imagine that it was shocking when it was first released. It suffers from some strange & stilted language but the overall story is great.
Even though this was written in 1974, it kind of reads like a 1950's, early 60's, Manchurian Candidate type of style. I liked it a lot. Another great dystopian tale. 5 16 year old orphans, taken against their will, to a huge room that consists only of staircases that seem to run to nowhere. Each kid has a different personality, a'la' The Breakfast Club. There is no food or water in sight. They quickly find this weird machine on one of the landings, that dispenses food to them once they figure out what it wants and how to deliver. Little, tiny food pellets made of meat, which apparently no longer exists in the outside world. The Machine seems to really enjoy them turning on one another, and their basic personalities start to come through. It's a great psychological drama, very prescient. I will be thinking about it for a while...
Sarjassamme lue ennen kuin poistat hyllystä: yllättävän piinaavaakin psykologista jännitystä mukana.
Five 16-year old orphans find themselves in a blinding white maze of stairs, the subject of an experiment they can't quite understand. An eerie study of human behavior.
