shall we say, not as good as the first one? like still kinda cute i guess but i was just not convinced that these 2 dudes were actually right for each other, given that it felt like (to me) the entire basis of their relationship is that they're physically attracted to each other and not much else. idk, they just didnt feel very compatible; maybe the whole hot-and-cold thing they had going just isn't for me? because the fact that every other chapter they were changing their minds about actually wanting to be a couple or not was just kinda tiring. also sea's alcohol issues were brought up Way too late and with not nearly enough depth. basically every single scene he's in, he's either a) drinking, or b) thinking about how much he wants to be drinking. kinda wish that wasnt brushed over with only 2 teensy mentions of therapy (maybe) happening in the last 50 or so pages

Nothing objectively wrong with it… just not what I was looking for
How do you have a fake relationship with the one-night stand who ghosted you and who ends up being caught in the same video that outs you to the workd? That's the question that Cait Nary tries to answer in Contract Season.
This book is a different take on the fake dating trope, fraught with traps from both Brody and Seamus' pasts and their own history together... plus Sea hates sports and Brody doesn't really like country music...
This book was hot off the mark and then stopped dead in it's tracks to start a true slow burn that lasts a while... and for me it kind of threw off the pacing just a bit. There are a lot of angsty moments, some good introspection and a slow conversational build... the side characters, particularly the rescue cat, Princess Kiwi, are strong and well developed and you see how the characters truly interact in their worlds.
Contract Season was a good solid read and showed a good blend of Nashville's music and hockey scenes

Loved this. Love mucked up folk who deal with their stuff, own it, go to therapy, and stay hopeful.
This was exactly what I was hoping for when I picked it up. Will read the next one as soon as I can!

Another wonderful book from Cait Nary. The characters from book one do appear, but only briefly. This story was a somewhat slow burn as the characters took a while to figure things out. Nothing wrong with that. I very much enjoyed this book.
cait nary’s writing continues to really, really work for me. there’s something about the way she puts words together that hits just right and really makes me feel all those big confusing feelings her characters are grappling with.
the journey to where these two characters end up isn’t an easy one, and yeah, sometimes a frustrating one. “just talk to each other!” is an easy thing to yell at my kindle at 1am but often a lot harder thing to do when we’re in the middle of figuring things out. in that way i sometimes find the miscommunication trope to be pretty (painfully) realistic. it’s hurts here in contract season but it hurts in that really good please figure it out because i’m here for the HEA way.
a note to say: the front porch light. the FRONT PORCH LIGHT. that’s exactly the sort of thing cait nary does that hooks me and keeps me fully invested ’til the end.
also, very nice seeing benji and olly again. just made me miss and love them even more.
can’t wait for the next book!
