This was more enjoyable for me the second time around.

I still can’t get as invested in the plot with Starbrand, Ex Nilho and the Universe. It’s just... a lot of exposition and more than a little confusing.

However, I enjoyed the character moments more this time around. I even appreciated the bit where half the team goes to Hong Kong. I liked seeing Shang Chi in action. The bits with Spider-Man and sunspot, Hyperion And Thor reflecting on their friends’ mortality, and some of the other smaller moments were interesting.

The art is gorgeous. Absolutely breathtaking at moments.

Still not quite a recommend but the second read was easier to get through.

This is deep and serious and cool, but the comics each seem really short. If I read 2 of them in a row I feel like I read a single comic. Not sure if they're making them shorter or maybe it's because I was just reading Preacher before this and those are lot longer and more dense. I like the way this is building up to "something big".

Although I really enjoyed most of the issues in this volume, I found it to be severely let down by the last two. The majority of the comics involve the avenger's dealing with New Adam and the creation of Starbrand. It's interesting seeing someone be 'picked' from the millions of the people on the planet and then be thrown immediately into destruction and devastation - so powerful that even the avenger's struggle to support and battle with him. It also brought to light what had gone 'wrong' with the defensive system that was supposed to take place - an interesting twist. The problem was that as soon as you learn about this interesting detail you're switched to another storyline entirely. The new storyline deals with the remains of what occurred in the last volume so it's interesting enough. However, that only lasts a single issue and then you're onto something else again that seemingly has no relevance at all to anything you've just read. It was a very disjointing experience.

If I didn't know that this series was part of a bigger picture, I'm not entirely sure that I would carry on reading them. I don't enjoy the disjointed experience that this volume presented. However, as it was only the last two issues that were really a problem, I probably would have picked up volume 3 and given it a third chance. It wasn't inherently bad and each did bring something interesting about the avenger's it was following, I just think it suffers from too big of a cast - or maybe starting off too many threads without linking them. Either way, we'll see what the next one brings.

Loved it! Better than the first volume in my opinion!

The dialogs are great, and the last comic in this volume is leaps better than the rest as it involves several avengers getting around a casino without using their powers. As for the famous White Event? No idea, it is still way too fuzzy a concept to know what these two volume have been building up to.

Great art, story and action. Overarching storyline. Anytime you get to see Thor and Hulk smash someone at the same time is good in my book!

Hickman's Avengers run doesn't get any more accessible in this run. While I enjoyed the Starbrand focused arc, and the adventures of the Avengers at a casino on an AIM controlled island, they didn't add up to a fun story. Mostly because Hickman is trying to make this series Cosmic Cosmic by using Way Over The Top narration about just how important and apocalyptic the events are, even though they're all relatively on scale with your average Thanos, Kang, or Galactus story.

And while I did like the adventures of Starbrand and Nightmask here, I'm still not sold on The Garden aliens as an interesting set of villains. And I still don't know why Captain Universe is a part of this team/an interesting Marvel character, aside from their PTSDed alter ego.

I guess I recommend this for the Marvel fan who picks up their first Guardians Of The Galaxy or Nova trade, and thinks This Is Awesome, I Would Like More Of Whatever This Is.

I guess having a reasonably coherent plot has gone out of style. Another issue of random Avenger's related characters doing random things. With no reason to like or appreciate any of the characters. At least the art is not bad.
