So good! I’m guessing that the overall middling rating on GR is because this isn’t a racy romance… BUT… it’s still such a good novel. I loved the ending so much. First time I’ve cried reading a book in a long time. Give this one a chance. Take it for what it is, and not what it isn’t and you may just find yourself surprised.

I tried to go along with this,i really did, but the ending was too whacky even for me.

It was enjoyable but I didn't loved it.
The characters felt a little off for me, maybe because there were too many, and I had a problem with the timelines.
I liked how it ended but I was hoping for more. But even with all the problems that I had I couldn't put the book down.

I have mixed feelings about this book. I think it was a really interesting concept and the plot was compelling for the most part. There were a lot of characters and not all of them felt very fleshed-out, maybe there should’ve been one less friend in the group. I think the reveal at the end was a bit disappointing, Henry leaned into the whole “small town literally haunted with its past” trope but I don’t think that worked super well with the alien red herring. The lore doesn’t make a ton of sense if you think about it for more than two seconds. The prose was beautiful, though.

I started reading Emily Henry in reverse, starting with her recent rom-coms, which I absolutely adore in all their over-the-top romantic chemistry joy. After falling head over heels for her writing I thought I'd start reading her older works as they come highly recommended. Unfortunately this was a major miss for me. Some of the characters felt very under-developed or blurred together, the story progressed painfully slowly and then dramatically changed course out of nowhere, which left me confused and meant the emotional "release" failed to hit the mark as there was no real build which would lead me to care. For a book about teenagers the dialogue was generally pretty realistic, which is better than most YA lit written by fully fledged adults. Might be a 3 star but I'm feeling stingy.

It was a little slow but I was curious enough about the plot to keep listening. Close to a DNF, but I powered thru. Not sure if it was me or the book. I’m a mood reader and maybe I just wasn’t in the mood. I am also reading two really good books, so that could be it!
