I may be biased because I watched the show before reading the book, but I absolutely loved it! Although this is one of the rare cases where I think the show did it better than the book, only because the show really dove into the other characters, while the book was only centered on Anne. I still loved being back in Green Gables, I absolutely love this story, the characters, the setting, the lessons, and everything about it! Highly recommended, along with the series!

Read this book as a child and it was 5 stars then. Holds up fairly well as an adult. I cried :(

Easily loveable and believable characters. The syntax flows so smoothly from dialogue to description. And the FLOWER SYMBOLISM is RICH!! In my opinion, a must read!

I immediately fell in love with this book, with Avonlea and most of all, with Anne. Even though it’s considered children’s fiction, it can definitely be read and enjoyed at any age. Anne’s character is heartwarming and authentic; she’s full of curiosity and her beautiful thoughts spill out of her. Her friendship with Diana is so genuine, and her bond with Marilla and Matthew grows throughout. I was surprised about how much time passed from beginning to end (about five years), and I imagine the later books will go into her adult adventures - although I will surely miss her silly, childish mistakes!
