What a sweet read! I loved Viv and the messaging that it is never too late to lean into what and who we love and march off toward something new together.

I keep going back and forth on if this is a 2.5 or a 3 for me.

It’s pretty much what you’d expect: a story about someone starting up a coffee shop from scratch in a fantasy setting. Very little happens outside of that. There’s a hint of a romance but it’s really not a big focus at all. There’s also a point of conflict mostly towards the end, but that’s it.

It was just alright for me. I wouldn’t go as far as saying I was bored, but it was just very mildly entertaining. And I’m not really someone who needs plot to enjoy a book, a lot of my favorite books are very slow paced and character focused. So idk why this one didn’t really work for me. I didn’t dislike anything. In theory I should’ve liked it more. But it was very meh throughout.

In hindsight, I think I like slow books more if there’s some sort of social commentary or message to it, rather than literally just a slow slice-of-life story with nothing to say. Becky Chambers is a good example, while her books never go very deep into the social commentary, it’s always there. Her books often explore humanity, communism and environmentalism in subtle ways alongside the slice-of-life character focused story.

I loved every single word of this. It's a lowely, low-stakes, high fantasy story about a former warrior Orc trying to reinvent her life as she tries to start a coffee shop in the city of Thune, where nobody has heard of this exotic drink. She enlists the help of Cal the Hob, Tandri the succubus, and Thimble the Rattkin. If you enjoy slice of life, like queer fantasy, or if cosy fantasy sounds appealing to you, then I highly recommend picking up this lovely book that's going straight to my list of favourites!

This book was so wholesome it was sickening and I devoured it in less than 24 hours.

The characters were loveable, the stakes were low and the story was easy, familiar and relaxing.

This book was basically a cup of hot fantasy tea, while being wrapped in a blanket listening to the rain fall.

Cosy fantasy books is something I had no idea I needed in my life and it was everything I wanted.

Excuse me as I now making it a core part of my personality.

This was such a cozy and lovely read. I don't usually go for books where not much happens, but I needed a relaxing pick-me-up read after reading a heavy book and this was so perfect. Found family and coffee love, just sweet and comforting.

Wholesome. Adorable. A love letter to friendships made in Dungeons and Dragons.

This book does what it says on the tin, low stakes story about a former adventurer starting a coffee shop. That said, it does it extremely well with a good payoff.

Regarding the cat:
nothing bad happens to the cat!
