It is a comforting read, but I found myself a bit bored. I may not be the right reader for cosy fantasy after all. To me, it read like a nice fluffy fanfiction that goes on for a bit too long. I found myself intrigued by secondary characters, wanting to know more of their backstory, instead of truly being invested in Viv's story.
The romance plot is not central but it is cute.
While there are interesting ideas and themes, I think they are explored in a way that is too surface-level to be memorable (to me - but many swear by this series so I would still recommend it).

I wanted to like this soooooo bad. I just found it soooo slow, and the language also flipped between modern and old timey? Lgbt love story was barely there. I feel bad hating on it so much but I was looking forward to this book for awhile!!

God, what a letdown. This book had been hyped up as everything I’m into: fantasy, coziness, romance—and ALL of it fell flat.

The characters didn’t feel distinct from each other, the vibes were “cozy” but also dreadfully BORING, and the romance was almost nonexistent.

This could’ve—should’ve—been so much better. I almost wish I hadn’t read it.

This is exactly what I needed. If you’re looking for a cozy book, give this one a try.
