Anyone ever wonder about the story of the tavern or innkeeper who used to be an adventurer? This is the book for you. Especially if you're a fan of the found family trope. I'm fond of big smashy orc characters myself and to see one portrayed as also a reader and a cafe lover? Yep. Hit me in the sweet spot. A good read, especially for RPG players who just want a taste of the everyday life in their game worlds.

I liked the premise but wasn't impressed by the execution.

Everything was described in a lot of detail which I enjoyed some of the time especially when it related to coffee but it started to get a bit tedious when I was told what the cafe menu said, word for word, for the 6 time. The world was also quite cliche which didn't help.

Generally, the book got a bit dull as it went on and I was never very interested in the plot. The romance was the most well-done part of the book but I think it took too long to develop.

The characters were okay but most of them were often annoyingly jolly but I guess I can't complain cause it's cosy fantasy. The tone didn't work for me though. Whenever something bad happened Viv would do a lot of swearing(as an attempt from the author to change the tone) which I found a bit jarring and not very effective. The characters often didn't feel very realistic, which isn't always a bad thing but I found that it was in this book.

The humour was sometimes funny but often the characters were laughing and you weren't. I thought the writing style felt quite amateur and this was very detrimental to the whole book.

I think it's great that more fantasy books are being written that aren't about epic world-shattering conflicts but this one doesn't execute that idea very well.

Cozy and delightful, would have been a perfect read for a cuddle-up-by-the-fire in a november evening. But alas, i read it on cold april mornings and it still warmed me up with the character dynamics and cafe adventures!

I really like this book and the characters. The Pages To Fill about how Viv came to love coffee was wonderful. Definitely will recommend this to my friends and family. Can’t wait for the next book to come out.

i wasn't expecting to love this as much as i did! i'm usually a fan of deeper, more emotional books, but this was such a fun read. i've only known thimble for 2 days but if anything happened to him i would kill everyone in this room and then myself. all the characters were great and the descriptions of everything in the coffee shop were really nice. i will say, though, that i'm glad the romance was pretty understated and not essential to the main plot because you could definitely tell it was written by a man lol.
