some of the genetics stuff didn’t make sense to me. like two brothers should have similar genes even if they don’t look identical… but omg the slow burn romance!
they hugged!

really like ellery and reed. thought I wouldn't enjoy this one because I skipped, read #3 by mistake and didn't think I could go back, but still very much enjoyed it.

3.92/5 stars. I have a difficult time believing that anyone with the main character’s background would be accepted into law-enforcement. It was a decent book, and I will continue with the series.

No Mercy is the second Ellery Hathaway book, one thing I've learned so far is that Ellery doesn't tiptoe into danger. Nope, she plunges headfirst, and for a woman who has seen her fair share of it, she takes the leap with little regard for her own wellbeing. Oh, and she takes Reed Markham with her whether he wants to go or not. Reed and Ellery have an interesting history and it's not one that would be conducive to romance, but there's an interesting chemistry between them. We only got a glimpse of it in the first book, but this one takes a closer look. In addition to that, Ellery and Reed are investigating a couple of older crimes, one believed to be solved and the other with little to go on. The cases are interesting in their own right, but these characters set this series apart from so many run of the mill mysteries. Both Ellery and Reed are likable. They're complete opposites on so many fronts, but they still manage to mesh even when they both fight it and refuse to admit it to each other as well as themselves. I'll be interested to see where these two go as the series progresses, plus the end of this one opened the door to another solid mystery to solve for this pair. All in all, No Mercy is a good addition to a series that I'll certainly be keeping my eye on.

No Mercy by Joanna Schaffhausen is th follow up to the fantastic Vanishing Season featuring police officer Ellery Hathaway. I read the first book earlier this year and I am a bit behind in my review for this one. Once I picked this up I couldn't put it down, reading it quite quickly. The story is fast paced and full of action, keeping my interest all the way.

After the explosive events of The Vanishing Season Ellery is on forced leave to recover, both physically and mentally. If she has any chance of getting her job back with the force she has to behave herself and do as she is told. She begrudgingly starts to attend group therapy with other victims of crime. It is here that she meets the victim of a brutal rape, whoever attcker is still out there. She also meets a woman who lost her son in a fire, but was the right man convicted. She manages to get Reed Markham from the FBI back to town. Help her investigate these 2 cases, outing herself in danger once again. Will she be able to help these women and stay alive?

Thanks to St Martins Press and NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book to read. All opinions are my own and are in no way biased

After finishing The Vanishing Season on holiday, I decided to download the second in the series as an easy choice. Sadly, it doesn't live up to the first.

I think its biggest flaw is trying to cover way too many things at once, it makes it feel disjointed and random. I don't think it gave much in the way of character development or a long term storyline, and the only thing that makes me want to read the next one is the last page. Annoying!

Was quite a slow read in the end, struggled to pick it up and finish it.
