It took me a little while to get through this book but it is hand down one of the best books I have ever read. Such a beautiful story, such beautiful characters, and a beautiful ending.

Simplistic, characters and the narrative are absolute 1-dimensional caricatures. The trope of miserable old man being nasty to everybody and his Ray of sunshine wife is an old weathered trope. I tried so hard to get through it as everyone seems to love it but I just couldn't. There was often many things said that were offensive and insensitive about women, people who are overweight, pregnant people, that made me uncomfortable

A very heartwarming story that I really enjoyed. I definitely liked the beginning and ending more than the middle. Sometimes the character arcs felt more abrupt to me, and I would have liked focusing on some elements/characters more than what we got. There were some parts that felt more shoved in rather than natural, and I think they could have been cut out to create a smoother transformation for Ove. Overall, I am happy I read it, and the ending was definitely cathartic.
