This is a reflective memoir about coming of age in 1980s Liverpool while dreaming about and absorbing America through its media. The title is a touch misleading as the primary setting is the UK and focuses on how the author dramed of America while facing grimmer realities in his everyday life.
The story itself is an interesting read that focuses on a hope that needs to be reached for and attained. It is combined with witticism and excellent epigraphs to keep a lighter tone against occasionally darker content.
