A great UK Detective series that is well worth a read! I’m hoping Robert Bryndza revisits this series and writes more because I feel like there were some open ended questions with some of the characters that I would love to see closed out. Either way, I’m looking forward to reading his new series.
Once again another superb book in the series featuring DCI Erika Foster. I read this book in two sittings in under 24 hours, it sounds cliched but I genuinely did not want to put it down. The series just continues to get better and better and I am grateful to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read it early.
This is the 2nd Erika Foster novel I’ve read and it is a captivating read. Even though it’s the 6th book in a series, I think it can stand alone as well. A young woman with a questionable background is murdered on Christmas Day and Det. Foster is left to investigate interesting suspects and witnesses to find the truth.
I really enjoyed this book. The ending was really good, very unpredictable. We get hooked till the last page. It's a very fast paced quick read. It just doesn't feel like it's the last book in the series because I think Erika deserved a better ending. I don't know, I kinda have mixed feelings about that. But overall, it was a really good book. And, tbh, I think I'll miss some of these characters.

Eu gostei bastante deste livro. O final foi muito bom e inesperado. Ficamos agarrados à história até à última página. É uma leitura muito rápida e viciante. Só não senti que tivesse sido o último livro da série porque acho que Erika merecia um final melhor. Não sei, acho que essa parte pessoal da Érica podia ter sido melhor elaborada. Mas no geral, foi um livro bastante bom. E, para ser honesta, acho que vou sentir falta de algumas destas personagens.

So many elements to this story, it kept me gripped from the very first chapter. By far the most intricate and intriguing Erika Foster case yet and I’m hoping there’s more to come from her in the future!

Segredos Mortais é um policial típico. Uma morte, histórias ao seu redor, um suspeito que acaba por não o ser e o verdadeiro culpado só aparece nas últimas páginas depois de voltas e reviravoltas, sendo, muitas vezes, completamente inesperado. Apesar de obedecer a estes critérios que o tornam típico, este livro mostra ainda quanto os policias são seres humanos, com as suas fragilidades e erros e que, nem sempre, descobrem tudo à primeira.
A escrita é fluida, simples, sem grandes arabescos (que, muitas vezes, prejudicam e complicam a leitura). As personagens estão bem construidas, criam empatia e simpatia. A história tem uma cadência extraordinária que nos obriga a continuar a ler sem parar.
É, sem dúvida, um autor a seguir.
